Community Needs Assessment for Program Planning

Developing a community needs assessment to support your organization's planning process can be challenging.  We'll provide an overview of the various aspects of the community needs assessment and offer resources to help your organization tackle this important part of your program planning process.

In this workshop, we will address:

⁠- Why conduct a community needs assessment?

⁠- What should be included?

⁠- How often should you conduct this type of assessment?

Emmanuelle Jarmon is a committed, resourceful, and results-oriented professional with 20 years of experience working with Head Start programs and community-based organizations. She conducts community needs assessments to help inform program planning and assists agencies with grant development to help sustain and expand capacity. Core competencies include primary and secondary data research, survey design, data collection and analysis, grant writing and editing, and logic modeling. Ms. Jarmon has worked with range of nonprofits and organizations in the areas of early childhood education, youth services, refugee resettlement, and affordable housing. She holds a B.A. from Boston University, an M.S. in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work, an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and a Master’s in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Alexandra ("Alex") Cohen works with nonprofits, social enterprises and startups to design and implement programs that expand their global impact. With more than 15 years of experience as a litigation attorney, Alex uses her strong writing and advocacy skills  as a nonprofit consultant.  She designs strategy and communicates complex ideas to a varied audience, and particularly enjoys supporting nonprofits build their capacity and create strong grant proposals that translate into funding and increased impact.

Lawrence will share her experience over 35 years on how to build the confidence and teach the right fundraising skills from board members to program staff.  Take your nonprofit fundraising to a broader, more effective place.  This workshop is perfect for new Executive Directors, Board Members, program staff and other direct client staff. 

Denise B. Lawrence, known as the profitable nonprofit startegist, developed expert-level experience in grant writing, fundraising and philanthropy over her 34 year career. She has raised over $35 million for organizations serving as the lead on capital campaigns.  

Denise is an ordained Pastor, she holds a Master of Divinity with a focus on discipleship from Liberty University, and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Florida A&M University.  

Denise now resides in the Atlanta, Georgia area where she manages national and international clients and a team of experts as CEO for Charity Consultants Inc. She has coached hundreds of nonprofit executives and currently serves as a trainer for the Foundation Center (now Candid). At Candid, she leads the national nonprofit consultants’ cohort and teaches on several nonprofit trending topics.
